22 | Celestial Temple

A sudden darkness
my eyes fail to see
there are no stars
despite my anticipation

nights when I was young
back to the cold shingles of the roof
staring wide-eyed to the sky
I would drift among the stars
Flee the world beneath me

I was billions of light years away
I wanted never to return
ahead lie my true home

now I look and see nothing
my breath echoes in the void
heart resonating likewise
terrified
there is nothing to be seen
I wish only to find something
anything to see
a reflection, a light
nothing

I snap my eyes tightly shut
everything is here
everything where I left it

beneath me the horizon
above, a soft light
adrift
spinning about a point
alone

all is quiet
a comforting silence
my soul
