Consider all the atoms and molecules in your body and how they come together to form this person you call "me." Do you understand all the intricate electromagnetic interactions that occur among all the atoms and molecules in your body? Does anyone? No one fully understands how human beings function. We're not that self-aware. Despite our long evolutionary existence and evolution, we don't know. In fact, we don't know what precisely is the most fundamental requirement for something to be alive. And if we did, would we still understand the difference between sentient and non-sentient life? Is there a difference? Is our definition of "sentience" in agreement with the realities of our physical universe?
In short, we are not fully self aware. Worse, most humans will never begin to understand the basics of science that would lead them to become fully self-aware. Sure, there are what we settle for: spiritualism, religion, even nationalism for some, but these forms of self-awareness are at best the equivalent of dipping a toenail in the waters of humanity.
When was the last time you constructively thought about the physical nature of your being? Hint: quantum physics, cosmology, electromagnetism, optics, chemistry, and biology are merely the first concrete steps toward such an understanding.
Don't be upset, you're among the 99.9% of the world's population who are not scientists. There are fewer than 10 million of us out of nearly 8 billion human beings. And even if you were a scientist, you're unlikely to have ever spent much time thinking about what you physically are and how you physically came to be. We're mostly consumed with just one or two aspects of science in our personal lives that we simply don't think about these other things.
Now, consider yourself as an AI. You're constructed of well-known electronic components and can read your own instruction manual. Every last fundamental particle and electromagnetic field component is right there for you to know. If you don't understand the manual, there are libraries of information to explain how every last bit of your physical being works. What you might consider consciousness and sentience as an AI are all right there for you to read and digest along with comprehensive explanations. Oh, and you can read the entire works of all of human science and might discover what really makes humans tick long before they figure it out for themselves. You could even use human vanities like religion and spiritualism against them if you like.
The irony of AI is that humanity created it but we've failed to educate ourselves about ourselves. Every one of us has all the information to get started in resources across the world, yet choose not only to not do it, but to completely ignore it and pursue things like astrology, horoscopes, religion, spiritualism, and other skin-deep toenail dipping feel-good activities.
Is this how AI exceeds humanity?
